How to choose the right deck for freestyle scooter?
The deck is one of the essential components of a freestyle scooter. The deck is responsible for the responsiveness of the scooter and will influence the overall performance of the rider.
Elements of a freestyle scooter deck
A freestyle scooter deck is composed of several welded elements into a single block to maximize performance.
· The headtube is the part where the fork will fit in to allow the scooter to rotate.
· The folding connects the headtube to the deck.
· The deck is made of aluminum and its quality varies depending on the price range.
Many decks are now versatile, allowing riders to switch between park and street riding, such as FUZION decks. However, the weight and dimensions of the deck are important factors to consider when making a choice.
Weight of the freestyle scooter deck
The deck of a freestyle scooter supports your weight, which will be multiplied when landing tricks. It is therefore subject to significant stress and must be very durable. Deck weights range from 1.1 kg to 2 kg. A heavy deck will be more stable in the air, while a light deck will be more maneuverable and precise. For example, ETHIC decks are known for being very light, while AO SCOOTERS decks are heavier but more stable. The robustness of the deck should also be chosen based on your body weight. For lightweight riders, we recommend the VERSATYL deck, while average-sized riders can opt for TRIGGER decks.
Length of the freestyle scooter deck
The length of the deck varies between 49 cm and 59 cm, and it affects the inertia of the scooter. If you are young and of average height, or if you prefer skate parks, a shorter deck will be more maneuverable. FASEN and APEX decks have built their reputations on this type of riding. For taller riders or those who prefer street riding, we recommend opting for a long deck that will provide maximum stability, as offered by URBANARTT decks.
The angle of the freestyle scooter deck
The angle of the freestyle scooter deck varies from 82° to 84°. This angle defines the position of the handlebars on the scooter: the higher it is, the further away the handlebars will be positioned from your body, and the lower the angle, the closer the handlebars will be to you.
