What are the important information to know before choosing your freestyle scooter handlebar?

The handlebar, also known as the bar, is surely the essential element of a freestyle scooter as it gives it its particularity. This constituent element will allow you to steer the scooter and perform most of the tricks. Some brands offer very colorful models for ultra-personalized scooters, such as the URBANARTT bars.

The different materials of a freestyle scooter bar

The handlebars are generally made from steel or aluminum alloy. But a trend towards a third material is emerging, titanium.

· Aluminum handlebars are very light, around one kilogram, but suitable for riders of small build. This material is quite fragile and very rigid, which leads it to break sharply in case of wear.

· Steel handlebars are, on the other hand, heavier, always over 1 kg, but more solid. Representing the majority of handlebars sold, they tend to bend instead of breaking, which limits the risks in case of a break during practice.

· Titanium handlebars have revolutionized the practice in the past 2 years, they are very light, less than 1 kg, and very resistant. Their only disadvantages are their very high cost and the flexibility of the material that can destabilize some riders.

The shape of the freestyle scooter handlebar, a choice specific to each rider.

There are handlebars of all shapes, but we will focus on 2 categories: T-bars also called T-shaped handlebars and Y-bars also known as Y-shaped handlebars. The technical differences are very small and depend mainly on the quality of manufacture. The difference is aesthetic and should be adapted to your practice. Most brands offer both shapes, such as BLUNT handlebars, known for their resistance.

When we talk about the shape of the handlebar, we also hear about the backsweep. This is the angle on each side of the handlebar that brings its ends closer to the rider. There is also the up sweep, which is the same thing but from the height point of view. The backsweep can be comfortable for some and disturbing for others, you will have to make up your own mind.

The height of the freestyle scooter handlebar, crucial according to your practice.

To choose the height of your handlebar, we invite you to refer to our selection tool on the left-hand side of the handlebar page. Otherwise, your handlebar height should above all be the one with which you feel most comfortable.

However, for a versatile rider, the perfect theoretical height is slightly below their own height. Street-oriented riders or those seeking stability may choose to have a slightly higher handlebar. Park-oriented riders or those seeking responsiveness will opt for a lower bar.

Choosing the right width for your freestyle scooter handlebar for optimal comfort.

The width of a freestyle scooter handlebar is subjective, and we recommend trying out different widths to find your preference.

However, in theory, a handlebar width that matches your shoulder width will be most comfortable. A narrower bar may make executing tricks like barspins easier, but you will have less strength for tricks like whips and kickless. On the other hand, a wider bar will give you more stability and power in your tricks.

Existing handlebar diameters:

On the market, there are 3 types of handlebar diameters:

· 31.8 mm outer diameter and 27.8 mm inner diameter, which are mostly made of steel. They are designed for clamps and SCS Ø 31.8 mm and can be installed on standard forks compressed by SCS or ICS. In the case of an IHC fork, this type of diameter is compatible.

· 34.9 mm outer diameter and 27.8 mm inner diameter, which are mostly made of aluminum. They are designed for clamps and SCS Ø 34.9 mm and can be installed on standard forks compressed by SCS or ICS. In the case of an IHC fork, this type of diameter is compatible.

· 34.9 mm outer diameter and 31.8 mm inner diameter, which are mostly made of steel or titanium. They are designed for clamps and SCS Ø 34.9 mm and can be installed on standard forks compressed by SCS or HIC.

You will notice that some handlebars have a slot and others do not. Slot handlebars are designed for HIC, ICS, or IHC compression systems. They can be equipped on an SCS with an SCS adapter. Handlebars without a slot are designed for SCS, but note that a slot can be cut into any handlebar.
