What are scooters used for?
The adult scooter is used as a means of transport or for physical activity/sport.
The adult scooter is used as a means of transport or for physical activity/sport.
Getting around on a scooter will save you time on your daily commute, and enable you to cover much greater distances effortlessly (ideal for sightseeing and Sunday strolls).
Scootering is also a physical activity. However, as most people propel the scooter with the same leg, muscular effort is not always balanced. So consider skating with alternating legs, so that the effort is not asymmetrical.
Are you looking to avoid the stress of public transport, regain your independence, save time or get some exercise? An adult scooter can become a real urban mobility solution.
What are the features of an adult scooter?
The main features to consider before buying an adult scooter are: wheel diameter, which must be adjusted to the type of travel envisaged, foldability, weight and reliability. All the adult scooters on our website are folding scooters with height-adjustable handlebars.
Weights and wheel sizes
Key features for choosing your folding adult scooter :
The choice of a folding adult scooter depends on the routes you intend to take. There are three main types:
- For short journeys, or if you want to continue using public transport (mixed use), opt for fairly compact, lightweight scooters. That way, you'll have a decent ride and a fairly low weight to carry. Such a folding scooter weighs between 3 and 4 kilos and can support weights of up to 100 kg.
- On the other hand, for longer journeys, or if you want to do away with public transport altogether, opt for a large-wheel scooter (180 mm and over), which will be much more pleasant to ride, both in terms of comfort and the effort required to move forward at a certain speed. It will, however, be heavier if you have to carry it (between 4 and 5 kilos). The large-wheeled adult scooters we offer are suitable for people up to 1.90 m tall, thanks to height-adjustable handlebars, and weighing up to 100 kg.
- There are also intermediate models of adult scooters that are only slightly heavier than the smaller models, but offer greater comfort and performance (wheel diameter 140 to 180 mm). This type of folding scooter, which can also be used on public transport, takes up a little more space than the smaller models.
In all cases, choose a well-known brand to limit reliability problems, but above all to be sure of being able to find the little part you're bound to miss sooner or later.
Brakes and stability
Brakes for scooters are available in a range of sizes to suit different models of scooter.
Wheels and comfort
Adult scooter wheels measure between 100 mm and 200 mm in diameter:
- 100 mm wheel= for Sprite micro scooters, this wheel fits on the back of the scooter, while the front wheel is 120 mm.
- 120 mm wheel= for Micro Rocket, Monster bullet, Kickboard Monster scooters, Sprite micro scooter front wheel.
- 145 mm wheel = for Micro Speed scooters, with shock absorbers for comfortable gliding.
- Wheel 200 mm= for Micro Flex scooters and touring scooters, with a thick polyurethane coating for a comfortable ride whatever the distance and quality of the surface.
Wearing an adult helmet and knee pads will protect you in the event of a fall or impact, and reduce the severity of your injuries in the event of an accident.
You can choose helmets in your size and adjustable, comfortable knee pads.
How to maintain a scooter
To optimize the life of your scooter, remember to check the tightness of screws from time to time and every spare part.
Bearings, which enable the wheels to turn, are sensitive to water, so don't hesitate to dry them if necessary.
What's the budget for an adult scooter ?
Nomadeshop offers reliable scooters at prices ranging from €99 to €199, depending on the type of scooter. A compact adult scooter with small wheels for short trips or mixed use (scooter/metro, for example) costs around €99. In this category, a Micro scooter would offer the best value for money on the market. A large-wheel scooter with shock absorber and other comfort options will cost between €169 and €200 or more. Scooters from Micro and Globber come to mind. For the "in-between" range, again from the excellent Micro and Globber brands, expect to pay around €129 and €159.
You'll find all our adult scooter models and advice on our website and at the Nomadeshop store in Paris Bastille.
