The Streetwear brands
There are 3 products.
Heelys is not just a brand, it's the name of a concept and a sport conceived in 1999 in the USA. Wheeled shoes are very popular with children and teenagers, whether boys, girls or mixed, as they enable them to have a normal shoe, often with very pretty designs, and in one simple gesture transform it into a wheeled shoe thanks to a wheel inserted in the heel of the shoe. Heelys is not a gadget for kids, it's a discipline in its own right. They are available in dark, light or flashy colors.
As their name suggests, Heelys allow you to roll thanks to one or two wheels placed in the heel. They are also very trendy sneakers. Many Heelys are similar to shoe models from well-known brands on the market. These are often skater-type shoes. At Nomadeshop, you'll find over 30 models to suit every taste!
There are two types of Heelys models: shoes with two wheels and shoes with a single wheel at the back of the shoe. The two-wheeled models are more suitable for younger children (feet from 30 to 36.5), as the sneaker is more stable. On the other hand, single-wheel models are more maneuverable and more fun, so it's best to go for these models for children over 7/8 years of age. Some Heelys are available in sizes 30 to 47.5!
The shoe's wheel is removable, and can be easily clipped on and off using a small tool supplied with the shoes. So kids can wear Heelys just like regular sneakers, and clip on the wheel outside school, where it's often forbidden to wear rolling shoes. It only takes a second to clip and unclip a wheel, it's very easy to use and the tool can be hooked onto a key ring so you always have it with you. Heelys shoes are very good quality. As children's feet grow quickly, it's advisable to go up a size to make the shoes last longer.
For your first attempts, choose a smooth surface with no stones or sand, and equip yourself with protective gear (helmet, wrist guards, elbow and knee pads). To begin with, you need to learn to find your balance, often by holding onto a handrail or a friend. To begin with, you need to put one foot in front of the other (not side by side), with both points in the same direction. Generally, the stronger leg is behind (the left or right foot, depending on whether you're right- or left-handed).
Then, giving a slight push with your back foot, lift the toes of your front foot so that the wheel touches the ground. Once you've mastered this movement, lift the front of your back foot and let yourself slide, trying to keep your balance. Always keep your strongest foot forward and lean forward slightly. To brake, simply place the front of your feet on the ground. Another technique is to raise the toes of both feet at the same time, so that the back of the foot touches the ground.
For practice, try shopping in Heelys with a shopping cart: it gives you support and helps you manage your balance. Once you've mastered the basic techniques, you can try your hand at tricks: rolling backwards, rolling forwards, slaloming - it's great fun!
Heelys are made up of a shoe, wheels and bearings. So, to avoid damaging them, it's best to avoid riding in sand and water, even if the wheels can be changed. In most cases, the shoe will not be damaged until the child is older.
You'll find all Heelys models and advice on our website and in our Paris boutique.
